Modern Kitchen Design Ideas

Demonstrate your creativity with a modern kitchen design. Combining different colors and materials leaves you with a variety of unique possibilities for an elegant kitchen design.

Here are some of our favorite modern kitchen design ideas.

Modern Cabinets

When choosing cabinets that give your kitchen a modern look, consider one of these popular styles:

  • Flat panel- a flat slab door that comes in wood or painted styles
  • Paneled- provides a natural look and can be seen as a “square in square” pattern. Paneled cabinets add fun by allowing options for various sizes and patterns with high and low cabinets.
  • Deep wood- a mature and warm option for modern cabinets. When using deeper or darker woods, incorporate the colors of your countertops and bases for a clean look between these areas.
  • Acrylic- can be matte or shiny in a range of colors
  • Black-on-white- a classic, inviting look for your kitchen, consisting of contrasts of black cabinets, white countertops, and black-on-white paintings.
  • Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL’s)- textured laminate doors that simulate wood grain
  • Slim shaker- a modernized version of the standard shaker. The slim shaker has narrower rails, roughly 1/2” wide, as opposed to the standard shaker’s 2”-3” wide rails.

Modern Countertops

When it comes to countertop design, think of the center island and the countertops surrounding your modern appliances. The color, design, and material you choose for the countertops should complement your cabinets and counter bases. Modern countertop design can be the most fun in providing an opportunity for the variance in materials and colors. There are so many options, with waterfall countertops being a popular choice for modern kitchens. Waterfall countertops extend past the sides, dropping all the way down to the floor. The contemporary element typically showcases a natural stone, making it waterproof.

Modern Faucets

When picking out the best modern faucet to install in your kitchen, there are several options. The top three metals used for modern faucets are brass, nickel, and stainless steel.

Brass faucets are made from an alloy metal made of copper and zinc. Brass is one of the oldest faucet materials used today, known for its durability. Brass faucets do not easily crack or disintegrate and are corrosion-resistant.

Nickel faucets have a soft, brushed finish. This means its semi-satin finish isn’t shiny or matte. Nickel resembles stainless steel without shine.

Stainless steel faucets are lead-free. They come in a shiny silver color and are durable and corrosion-resistant.

Ball faucets with one handle that you turn to one side for hot water and the other for cold water are a classic option for your modern kitchen, especially if you have a small sink.

A good option for larger sinks is a sprayer faucet. Featuring a retractable design, this modern faucet type can extend in all directions to fill pots to make washing and cleaning easier. .

Modern Appliances

Appliances are the finishing touch to your modern kitchen design. They bring everything together. While modern appliances will vary based on owner needs, some popular modern appliances to consider are an 18” or 24” dishwasher and choosing between a gas or electric stove.

Warming drawers are a must-have for families who prepare and serve large groups of family and friends at a time.

A beer and wine refrigerator is perfect for entertaining and allows adults to keep alcohol in a separate place with restricted access. It is the best of both worlds.
