G-Shaped Kitchen Remodel Ideas

A G-shaped kitchen remodeling project is a great option for open-plan loft spaces.

One side of the G can go alongside a wall and the rest of the kitchen can extend into the rest of the room. Depending on the size of your kitchen space you can have 1½ or double-wide countertops.

A G-shaped kitchen design needs at least a 10 x 10 ft space and can be expanded into a larger room. Your G-shaped kitchen can be squared or angled. The refrigerator can be placed in the corner of the G, or on either end.

Advantages Of A G-Shaped Kitchen Remodel

The biggest advantage of remodeling your G-shaped kitchen is that it maximizes the use of your entire kitchen space with plenty of cabinet storage on all sides of the G and counter space for working and storing frequently used appliances.

With a G-shaped kitchen design, you have the option of privacy. You can raise the wall of your kitchen to close it off making it more private or you can keep the wall low making it open to create the look of a larger space connected with your other living spaces like your living room or dining room.

Disadvantages Of A G-Shaped Kitchen Remodel

While maximizing the entire use of your kitchen space is one of the biggest advantages of having a G-shaped kitchen, it can also be one of the biggest drawbacks. Because of its larger size, this type of kitchen often makes smaller spaces appear crowded.

The corner cabinet storage space can be hard to access, so you wouldn’t want to store pots and pans or other items that you often use there.

The shape of the G limits the entry and exit space of your kitchen. When working with more than one person in the kitchen, this can become a problem, so be mindful during your remodel to create enough space in your kitchen’s work center to avoid cramping.
